CGI Front Door Replacement in Los Angeles: What to Know First

CGI front door replacement in Los Angeles typically runs $1,800 to $4,200 for a full frame-and-slab install, and we complete most CGI door jobs in 3 to 7 business days once the slab arrives. The honest posture is that no shop can quote a CGI door over the phone without seeing the rough opening, the existing frame condition, and the hardware prep, so we give you a written line-item price after an on-site inspection – never before we’ve measured anything. This page is for CGI owners in Los Angeles whose front door has failed or is failing: warped slabs, blown seals, stripped hinge screws, sagging frames, rusted astragals, or impact-rated doors that no longer close square after years of sun and settlement. If you own a CGI door and you’re reading this because your door sticks, leaks air, or won’t latch, call (252) 675-6980 and we’ll schedule the inspection.

How CGI Products Fail – and How We Fix Them

CGI builds impact-rated doors that hold up to hurricanes, but Los Angeles has its own way of breaking things. Here’s what we actually see on CGI front doors across LA, and what we do about it:

  • Sagging slabs on older CGI Sierra and Estate series doors. These doors are heavy – often 150 to 220 pounds with impact glass and steel reinforcement. After a decade of thermal cycling in the San Fernando Valley heat, the hinge-side frame compresses and the slab drops, which is why the deadbolt stops lining up. We pull the slab, shim the rough opening back to plumb, and reset the hinges with longer screws into the framing, not the jamb. The door closes square again.
  • Seal failure at the astragal and threshold on CGI Targa and Bordeaux models. Los Angeles gets maybe 15 inches of rain a year, but when it rains, it blows sideways through the canyons. An astragal that’s been dragging on a concrete stoop for eight years wears through, and suddenly wind-driven water is coming under the door. We replace the astragal with a proper sweep and re-level the threshold so it doesn’t keep wearing through.
  • Surface rust on steel edges and hinge barrels. Coastal moisture from Santa Monica to San Pedro eats unprotected steel edges where the factory paint has chipped. We see this on CGI Estate series doors especially. We strip the affected edge, treat the rust, re-prime, and match the finish. If the rust has gotten into the hinge knuckles, we replace the hinges rather than trying to save a part that’s already failing.
  • Thermal bowing on darker-colored CGI slabs. A black or dark bronze CGI door facing direct afternoon sun in Woodland Hills or Sherman Oaks can get hot enough that the steel skin expands and the slab bows outward. The door looks warped, but the frame is usually fine. We remove the slab, verify the frame is still square, and re-hang or replace the slab as the bow dictates. This is a regular call in the summer months.
  • Worn-out hardware prep on slabs where someone drilled for new locksets multiple times. We see this on homes that have gone through a few owners in Highland Park or Echo Park. Every new deadbolt is a new set of holes, and eventually the lock area is Swiss cheese. On a CGI door, the hardware prep matters because the steel skin and foam core don’t give you much room to work with. We’ll re-prep the edge or the face correctly, using a jig, and we’ll tell you if the slab is past the point where a new lockset will hold properly.

Our CGI Front Door Replacement Process

  1. 1
We measure the opening, not just the old slab. Rough openings in Los Angeles houses are rarely square, especially in pre-1970 homes in Eagle Rock or Glassell Park. We measure width at top, middle, and bottom, height on both sides, and we check how far out of square the opening actually is. Nobody orders a CGI door from two measurements.
  2. 2
We diagnose the failure before recommending replacement. Some CGI doors need a slab. Some need a frame. Some need only a hardware reset. We’ll tell you which one you actually need and why, and we’ll show you the damage.
  3. 3
We discuss OEM versus quality aftermarket parts. For warranty-covered work, we recommend OEM. For doors outside any warranty window, a quality aftermarket weather seal or hinge can be a better value. We put both options in writing.
  4. 4
We order the slab or system to your opening’s actual dimensions. CGI doors are built to order, and we verify every dimension before we release the order. Measure twice, order once – then make sure the opening was built to code in the first place.
  5. 5
We install, air-seal, and test. New slab or full frame, we set it level and plumb, shim it properly, foam around the frame, and run a light test and a plumb test before we call it done. The door gets cycled multiple times, locked and unlocked, and checked for drag.
  6. 6
We hand you the written guarantee before we leave the property. Every install carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If it’s not right, Hale makes it right – no argument needed.

What CGI Front Door Replacement Costs in Los Angeles

CGI front door replacement in Los Angeles is priced by what’s actually wrong, and here’s the range we quote most often. A slab-only replacement runs $1,800 to $3,400 depending on glass package, finish, and hardware prep. A full frame and slab replacement runs $2,800 to $4,200. Adding a new multipoint lock or smart deadbolt adds $300 to $700. If the rough opening has water damage from a failed threshold, add $200 to $600 for structural repair. The big variables are the glass spec – laminated impact glass is more than standard insulated glass – and whether any frame repair is needed. We give you the written price before any work starts, and the number on that sheet doesn’t move unless you add scope. Call (252) 675-6980 to schedule a free inspection and get your written quote.

Why Los Angeles Homeowners Call Hale Windows & Doors for CGI Work

We’re an independent CGI service provider – not a factory-authorized shop – and that’s a distinction that works in your favor. We don’t have to push one brand or one product line. We install and service windows and doors from eight professional lines: PGT, CGI, CWS, ES Windows, ECO Window Systems, Mr-Glass, Therma-Tru, and ViewLux. That means when a CGI door has reached the end of its life, we can tell you honestly whether a replacement CGI makes sense or whether a Therma-Tru or a PGT product would better fit your opening and your budget. Spencer Odell, our owner, has been measuring, ordering, and setting doors across Los Angeles County for going on two decades, and he’s built the company around two things that matter to people who are cautious about who comes to the door: a 365-Day Done Right Promise stamped on every job, and a written price in your hands before anyone picks up a tool. Every technician who arrives for a Hale job is background-checked, identity-verified, photo-badged, and pre-announced by name and photo before the visit. You know who’s at the door before you open it. That’s the Threshold Standard, and we don’t relax it.
