Geometric & Shaped Windows in Los Angeles, CA | Hale Windows & Doors

Geometric and shaped windows bring architectural character to a home without compromising wind-zone protection. These are the triangular, hexagonal, octagonal, arched, and curved impact-glass configurations you see on custom builds, Mediterranean facades, and renovated mid-century homes across Los Angeles. Hale Windows & Doors fabricates each one to your exact opening, so the window fits the design, not the other way around. We carry these profiles through our PGT, CGI, CWS, ES Windows, ECO, and Mr-Glass lines. Every unit is engineered to Florida Building Code High-Velocity Hurricane Zone standards. If you’re planning a build or remodel in Los Angeles, call (252) 675-6980 to schedule a free on-site measurement.

Product Overview – Geometric & Shaped Windows

Shaped windows do more than fill an unusual opening. They anchor a room’s sightlines, pull in natural light from odd angles, and give a home a signature look that stock rectangular windows can’t deliver. The challenge in hurricane-prone construction has always been getting that geometry without giving up impact protection. That’s exactly what this product solves. Each unit is custom-fabricated to your opening, so a hexagonal window in a gable, a half-round over a front entry, or a triangular accent beside a staircase all get the same laminated impact glass and reinforced framing as the larger windows on the same wall.

The frame is available in aluminum or vinyl. Aluminum gives you slimmer sightlines and a cleaner modern profile, which matters on large geometric shapes where the glass is the point. Vinyl carries strong thermal performance and works well on homes where the window needs to blend with existing vinyl lines. The impact glass uses a PVB interlayer, the same technology used in the rest of our hurricane-impact product family. When something hits the glass, the interlayer holds the fragments in the frame instead of letting them scatter into the room.

Where these windows get specified most often in Los Angeles: entryway transoms, clerestory bands, stairwell accents, and gable-end feature windows. They read as deliberate architectural choices, not afterthoughts. And because they’re built to the same testing protocol as our rectangular impact windows, the architect doesn’t have to choose between the shape and the spec. Call (252) 675-6980 and we’ll walk through what’s possible for your opening.

Because every unit is fabricated to your opening, the spec sheet is built around your project’s dimensions, your wind zone, and your glass preference. We provide the NOA and Florida Product Approval documentation specific to the configuration you order, so your permit submittal in Los Angeles goes through without guesswork.

Hurricane & Compliance Performance

Laminated Impact Glass
The glass uses a polyvinyl butyral (PVB) interlayer. Under impact, the glass fractures but the interlayer holds the shards in the frame. Your window stays sealed, your interior stays protected, and the building envelope doesn’t open up to wind pressure. This is the same laminated construction we use across our impact product family.

Miami-Dade NOA / Florida Product Approval
Every configuration carries a Notice of Acceptance and Florida Product Approval number. These are issued per configuration, so the approval documents match the exact window you order. We verify the numbers on your quote before you sign, and we provide them for your Los Angeles permit submittal.

FBC / HVHZ Compliance
The product is engineered to Florida Building Code High-Velocity Hurricane Zone requirements. That’s the strictest wind-borne debris standard in the country. Los Angeles projects in designated wind zones get a window built to a standard that exceeds what most residential codes require.

TAS 201 / 202 / 203 Testing Context
HVHZ-rated products are tested under the TAS protocol family. TAS 201 covers large-missile impact. TAS 202 covers cyclic wind-pressure loading, which simulates the repeated buffeting of a hurricane. TAS 203 covers forced-entry resistance. Your shaped window is engineered to this full protocol, not a diluted version.

Design Pressure for Your Wind Zone
Design pressure is matched to your wind zone, up to +/-100 PSF, never higher. We don’t oversell a rating your opening doesn’t need, and we don’t undercut the code requirement either. The number on your quote reflects the actual structural demand at your Los Angeles address.

Energy Performance
Low-E insulated glass options are available. In the Los Angeles climate, the Low-E coating keeps solar gain down through south- and west-facing shaped windows while the insulated airspace helps stabilize interior temperatures. Tinted and clear glass options are also available depending on how much light and heat you want.

Color & Glass Options

Five finish options: White, Almond, Bronze, Black, and Tan. On Los Angeles homes, we see White and Almond on Mediterranean and Spanish Revival facades, Bronze on mid-century and contemporary builds, Black on modern and coastal structures where contrast is intentional, and Tan on homes that lean warm and understated. The frame color matters more on a shaped window than a rectangular one because the shape itself already draws the eye. A black half-round above a white rectangular window becomes an accent; a white octagon blends into the trim.

Glass choice comes down to where the window sits. Clear impact glass keeps the view and light honest, which works well on north-facing or shaded walls. Low-E insulated glass earns its keep on windows that catch direct afternoon sun. Tinted glass reduces glare in rooms where you’re watching screens or where the sun angle is constant. We’ll help you match the glass to the exposure, not just default to one option. Call (252) 675-6980 to go over finish samples and glass choices for your Los Angeles project.

Installation by Hale Windows & Doors in Los Angeles

A shaped impact window is only as good as its installation. The NOA rating assumes the window is set correctly: level, plumb, square, and sealed to the perimeter. A window that’s out of square by a quarter inch stresses the frame, compromises the seal, and can fail under load even if the glass itself is rated. We treat installation as part of the system, not a separate task.

Our install process starts with a pre-install inspection of the rough opening. We check the opening dimensions against the fabricated unit, assess the surrounding wall condition, and confirm the attachment method before anything gets set. Then we set the window level, plumb, and square, shim at the correct points without warping the frame, and anchor per the approved installation details.

Perimeter sealing uses AAMA 812 low-expansion foam, which fills the gap without bowing the frame. The process follows AAMA 2400/2410 standard practice: correct flashing, correct drainage, correct sealant joints. We finish with a water test on the opening and a walkthrough of the completed install. Cleanup happens the same day.

Los Angeles has its own permitting reality. Depending on the jurisdiction and the project scope, your shaped window may need a permit submittal that references the NOA and Florida Product Approval numbers. We provide those documents with your quote so your permit package is complete. If your home sits close to the water or in a designated wind zone, the design pressure requirement may be higher, and we’ll match the configuration to that demand. Improper installation is the fastest way to void a NOA-rated system’s real-world performance. That’s why this isn’t a product we sell for self-install. Call (252) 675-6980 to get a project started.

Frequently Asked Questions – Geometric & Shaped Windows

What wind zone / design pressure is the Geometric & Shaped Windows rated for?
Design pressure is matched to your specific wind zone, up to +/-100 PSF, never higher. The actual rating on your quote depends on your Los Angeles address, the window size, and the frame material. We don’t blanket-rate every configuration at the same number. Your quote shows the design pressure for the exact unit you’re buying. Call (252) 675-6980 for a site-specific answer.

What is the lead time on a custom shaped window?
Lead time runs longer than a stock rectangular window because every unit is fabricated to order. Plan for several weeks from approved drawings to delivery, and add a little buffer if your project is in a phased remodel where multiple openings are being replaced. We’ll confirm the current lead time when your quote is finalized so your rough schedule stays realistic.

Does it require a Miami-Dade NOA or Florida Product Approval submittal for my permit?
Yes, in most Los Angeles jurisdictions your permit package will need the NOA and Florida Product Approval numbers for the specific configuration you ordered. We provide those documents with your quote. You submit them with your permit application. If the building department asks for additional details, we’ll supply them directly. Call (252) 675-6980 and we’ll get the paperwork sorted before you file.

Can I customize the size or configuration?
Every unit is custom fabricated to your opening. You’re not picking from preset sizes. Tell us the shape, the rough opening dimensions, the frame material, the glass type, and the finish. We’ll confirm feasibility against the wind-zone design pressure and fabricate to match. Non-standard angles and radii are the norm here, not an upcharge complication.

How do I maintain the frame?
Clean the glass with standard non-abrasive glass cleaner. Clean the frame and track with mild soap and water, and avoid solvents that can break down the finish. Check the perimeter sealant annually and re-caulk if you see cracking or gaps. On aluminum frames near the coast, a rinse every few months keeps salt residue from accumulating. Call (252) 675-6980 if you notice sealant failure or condensation between glass panes.
