AfterWindow Company in Novato, CA
Novato’s window and door jobs are shaped by two forces most Bay Area cities never deal with at the same time: relentless marine-layer moisture and Marin County’s strict wildland-urban interface fire codes. That combination means a window or door that works fine in San Rafael may be the wrong product for a home in the Novato hills. We work in Novato every week, and the jobs here tend to be first-time replacements on mid-century ranch homes with original single-pane aluminum sliders and wood double-hungs that have been fighting the fog for 50 years. If you’re pricing windows or a front door in Novato, call (252) 675-6980 and we’ll put a written quote in your hands before any work starts.
Why Novato Homes Are Different
Most of Novato’s housing stock went up between the 1950s and the 1970s, and many of those homes still have the windows and doors they were built with. That means brittle putty glazing, single-pane glass, aluminum sliders that stick, and wood sashes that have absorbed decades of fog-belt moisture. In neighborhoods like Pleasant Valley and the flats around Novato Boulevard, we regularly see rot in wood sashes and rust on steel frames, problems the drier inland cities just don’t get with the same intensity.
The other half of the story is the terrain. Homes in the western and northern ridges, around Indian Valley and up toward Big Rock, sit directly in the path of seasonal Diablo winds. Those winds push embers and radiant heat against glass and door frames, and Marin County inspectors will flag unrated vinyl windows or out-swinging doors on a replacement permit in the wildland-urban interface. A Novato replacement often has to be wind-rated and ember-resistant at the same time. We quote to the permit requirements, not around them.
Our Main Novato Services
Most calls we take from Novato homeowners fall into three jobs: replacing old windows, repairing windows that have failed but don’t need full replacement, and replacing front doors. Each has its own page with pricing and local detail.
Window Replacement in Novato
Replacement work in Novato usually means pulling original single-pane aluminum sliders or wood double-hungs from a mid-century ranch and installing modern, code-compliant units. The wildland-urban interface rules add a layer most cities don’t have: glass and frame ratings matter, and we quote products like PGT and CGI because they’re built for wind and ember exposure, not just curb appeal. Custom rough openings are common in post-war tract homes here. Full detail on Window Replacement in Novato.
Window Repair in Novato
Repair calls in Novato lean heavily toward fogged double-pane glass, rotted wood sashes, and sliders that no longer glide. The damp, cool air this close to the coast keeps moisture working against wood and metal year-round, so a sash that looks solid from the inside may be soft where the glazing meets the frame. We write a guarantee on every repair, and if the repair fails, the second visit is free. See what’s repairable and what’s not on the Window Repair in Novato page.
Front Door Replacement in Novato
Front door jobs here split between security upgrades and weather-driven replacements. An out-swinging door that seems fine in a flat neighborhood may not meet code on a ridge lot where Diablo winds and ember exposure are a factor, and inspectors in Novato will check. We install doors from lines like Therma-Tru and ViewLux, with the swing direction, threshold, and weather seal matched to your specific exposure. The full breakdown lives on the Front Door Replacement in Novato page.

Brands We Service in Novato
We service and install professional-grade window and door brands including ViewLux, PGT, CGI, and CWS. Because Novato jobs cross into wildland-urban interface code territory, the right product for the hills is often different from the right product for the flats, and carrying multiple lines lets us match the product to the permit requirements and the budget. What pushes the price up in Novato is usually one of two things: a non-standard rough opening in an older tract home that needs a custom-sized unit, or WUI code requirements on a ridge lot that demand impact-rated glass and ember-resistant frames. Whatever the number is, you get it in writing before any work starts, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise stands behind it.
